Course Analysis

If you knew that 90% of your students missed question 3 on the exam, and that 60% chose answer (b) instead of answer (c) would you:

Curse the incompetence of your student population
Storm down to Human Resources and tell them to improve their hiring criteria
Review the question to determine whether the correct answer may actually be (b)
Review the course to see if the question's main concept is clearly covered by the material
Interview a student about why he thought the correct answer was (b)
Change out the question for an easier one

Actually, depending upon the exact question, all of these answers may be correct! Did all your trainees think the sun revolved around the earth, or that Barcelona was the capital of Russia? Perhaps you asked them to do a calculation requiring a number not in the text. Perhaps there was a clerical error in the answer key. Maybe the question is ambiguous.

The point is that being able to quickly and easily see where your students are tripping up can make a huge difference to the success of your training program. Your students will experience less frustration and more satisfaction with their training when the diligent study of the material is rewarded fairly.
